43 hours and counting

New Rule: Those of you who own a sewing machine are no longer allowed to live more than, oh, say 10 minutes away from me. Not hundreds or thousands of miles, and certainly not overseas. My fortyish-year-old-$5-church-rummage-sale sewing machine gave up the ghost today and is dying a slow painful death. It still kind of works if you give the crank a push or two, but then it only sews very very slowly and switches stitch patterns at random. So sad. I think something is wonky with the motor. So I had to go out and buy a new machine. Yeah, I maybe could have gotten the old one fixed, but I am supposed to have some black curtains finished by Saturday morning, and there just wasn't time. Why? Because I started this little sewing project at 9:30am on Thursday. That's 48 hours of lead time. Plenty of time. (Unless something goes wrong...but what could possibly go wrong?!?)You would think I would have learned by now that I have a problem with procrastination. But here it is 2:30pm and have I started the curtains yet?

No, of course not.
I didn't learn anything in college.

I do own a sewing machine, but it is similarly out of commission. I think it needs a tune-up. It is older than me.

I was kind of excited to get to buy a new one anyway-I'm hoping that modern technology will improve my sewing skillz.

Sorry about the overseas-ness there, AKJ! Not that mine (actually, Mr. Kluges') was doing great before we left, but it was good enough for costuming and curtains. I think Jaysan may also have one, if you end up in a bind again, but I'm excited to see your snazzy new sewing machine & mad sewing skillz (hee!) someday.
