Charity shopping

Another holiday thing I have been spending a lot of time thinking about are the stockings. Back when we first moved in together, I bought Dude and I matching ones. We both had left our Christmas stockings at "home" with our moms, so that they could still fill them up for us (heh) so we needed our own when setting up our own household. Stockings are no longer a big thing for my mom, and sometimes she doesn't even hang them up. However, stockings are a very big thing with my MIL and she actually got me my own stocking with my name embroidered on it when I married into the family. (And no, I didn't get a stocking with my name until that marriage license was signed) She has a whole set of the needlepoint kind, but I grew up with a knitted one. So now that we have Attila, she had to have a stocking too. She got one last year, but it was pink (shudder) and said "Baby's First Christmas" on it, which is fine, for your first Christmas, but you can't use that as your stocking for your whole life! So we had to get her a new one, and because I am a freak, I wanted them all to match. They had to be a set. They couldn't be too cutesy or too country, AND I wanted them to be able to have either our names or our initials embroidered onto them. Of course, every set I found that I liked was either crazy expensive, (seriously, I saw some online that were $40/ stocking! um. no.) or I liked them, but the Dude didn't or he liked them and I was just 'meh' about them. So the search was on, but I was having no luck.
Then today I was doing some costume shopping at the local charity shops and low and behold! It was one of "our" stockings! The very same one that Dude and I already had, and in brand new condition, and for $1.99! It's a Christmas miracle! Those stockings haven't been sold for 8 years, but a spare turned up right when I needed it. Unfortunately, I can't find the iron on letters that match what is on ours, but it won't bother me if her initial is in a different font/color as long as the stocking is the same. So the family stocking crisis of 06 has been averted! Yay!

Stockings have been important to me also, although we have not decorated for Christmas pretty much ever. With kids now, though, it's something I want to start.

Each person, however, gets a stocking for their personality or likes. Pants has a Mickey Mouse stocking. I have one with snowmen on it. I saw a pretty green one with daisies on it for Meimei at Target. And Kitten? Hers is pink velvet with a big crown brooch.

It was fate. Yay for stocking fate!

Mr. Kluges and I have matching stockings that I love that I found at two different times (the same Xmas season) at TJ Maxx. I'd like to get or make one for Pumpkin that is similar, but a) don't have a sewing machine here and b) can't seem to find any fabric stores, so she's got a cute purple one with snowflakes that I got at a charity shop as well. Now if I'd ever be lucky enough to find one of our original stockings anywhere ever again... I'd go buy a lottery ticket the same day!
