The year in review

This meme is floating around on numerous blogs and I am a sheep- and a little bored- so I thought I would steal it for my own blog content.

1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before? Became a mother (OK, so I gave birth at the end of 2005, but really, close enough), bought a franchise and started my own business, made chocolate chip pumpkin bars, started posting on my blog.
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I typically don't make resolutions, and if I do, they tend to be vague, like "be more organized" or "spend more time with people who are close to me". I am debating making some for 2007. I might, and I am not sure if I will make them public or not.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes!
4. Did anyone close to you die? No- *knock on wood*
5. What countries did you visit? Umm... just this one.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2007? More time to myself (ha!), finished hardwood floors, a functioning home office.
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Etched? I am not sure any dates will be etched...Maybe my 5th Wedding anniversary and Attila's first birthday. Maybe Airlea's wedding.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Breastfeeding, not *losing* money on the business
9. What was your biggest failure? Not *making* money on the business
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Just some mastitis that made my right breast feel like it was trying to detach itself from my body, and it made me miss an Adventure Weekend for the first time ever. :( Luckily, the whole ordeal was over pretty quickly, and it didn't happen again.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new diaper bag. So pretty, so functional. Yay for e-bay!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Barack Obama? Everyone who voted Democrat? Drawing a blank here...
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The president, and all his cronies. Michele Bachmann
14. Where did most of your money go? Buh-Bye. Not expecting (and thus saving/preparing) to be a SAH/WAH mom kinda sucked.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Little things. New teeth, sleeping through the night, rolling over, sitting up, first foods, first words, first smiles.
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Upside Down, Jack Johnson (we've listened to the Curious George CD a lot this year)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer? Happier/a little bit thinner/a little bit poorer
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Sleep. Exercise.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Stressing, worrying, procrastinating
20. How will you be spending Christmas? Already did- visited the in-laws on the eve, had my parents over for x-mas day.
21. Did you fall in love in 2006? Nah, already there.
22. How many one-night stands?
This year? Um. Zero. From what I recall, they are a little over-rated anyway.
23. What was your favorite TV program? Hell's Kitchen, Grey's Anatomy (well, love to hate) What Not to Wear, Designed to Sell.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate last year? Hate is too strong of a word. But no, all my nemesis es (nemesi?) are the same.
25. What was the best book you read?
The Time Travelers Wife- Audrey Niffenegger. LOVED this one. It's now one of my favorite books ever.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery? Ben Taylor (James Taylor's son), The Killers
27. What did you want and get?
I wanted to not have to put Attila in daycare, and it's still a little surprising and a pretty big deal that it's all working out.
28. What did you want and not get?
A digital SLR camera. A truck for Dude.
29. What was your favorite film this year? I haven't seen many, but I loved Little Miss Sunshine
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Hmm, I can't recall...I must be getting old. I turned 33. (I seriously just had to stop and think about that) I think I was sick and had a cold, so I doubt we did much. We might have gone out to eat. I think we did. It's all a blur.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Having my school be overwhelmingly profitable would have been nice, but overall, it was a pretty satisfying year.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept for 2006?
Concept? I am supposed to have a concept? Uh- Functional? Spit-up proof? Unoffensive?
33. What kept you sane? my friends, Baby class, the internets, just going with the flow, working part-time.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Johnny Depp
35. What political issue stirred you the most? The election. The war.
36. Who did you miss? Old friends, and friends who live far away.
37. Who was the best new person you met? Tara, who was a fellow mom in the baby class, but she is moving to CA at the end of January.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
Don't break eggs directly into the mixer bowl- break them in a separate bowl first, then add to your batter. Chocolate and pumpkin taste good together. Stubbornness can serve you well- though it's better to think of it as persistence. Let your partner find their own way when caring for the baby- it's ok if daddy does things differently than mommy does.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Who's to say
What's impossible
Well they forgot
This world keeps spinning
And with each new day
I can feel a change in everything
~Jack Johnson

And this is how I see you
in the snow on christmas morning
love and happiness surround you
as you throw your arms up to the sky
I keep this moment by and by
~Sarah McLachlan
(I don't know that this one sums up my year, but I love it, and it makes me all teary even reading it. I am a sobbing mess when I hear Sarah sing it, so it obviously touches me in some way)

THE END.
