First, let me say this; Yes, I know, we are the last people on earth who do not to subscribe to Netflix. We just don't rent movies all that often. Maybe once a month - If that. We've often considered it, usually after the latest letter that begs us to please please please sign up. They are aware that we are the last people on earth to not be customers, and they know where we live. (I swear, I once read about a native tribe in the Outback that gets movies in the mail.) Each letter they send is increasingly desperate. Just $20 a month! No, Just $10 a month! Just $5 a month! Just $3.95 a month**(excessive restrictions apply, blah blah blah)
I was starting to feel bad for them. Like maybe they really needed me to be their friend. Maybe if I just rented some movies from them, it would boost their self-esteem a little and then they wouldn't be quite so needy and desperate. And then I could set them free to make their own nerdy movie friends...wait. It never works that way. They always suck you in. Then there has to be a whole big scene where you won't sit with them at the nerd table in the cafeteria. *sigh*
Anyway, I was running some errands today and decided to swing by the video store on the way home. Which is part of why we are the last people on earth not to have netflix- the video store is just up the road. It's maybe half a mile. I can walk there. It's between the liquor store and the coffee shop, very convenient. Or I should say was, was convenient, since when I drove by today, the video store was GONE. Moved out. Totally completely empty with a big FOR RENT sign on the door. It hasn't even been that long since I'd been there. Maybe a month or so. And we were certainly on good enough terms that they could have at least called me to tell me they were closing. (They were always calling me to entice me with a free rental- which is reason #2 why we hadn't yet signed up for movies in the mail- the video store was so desperate for my love that they were giving me movies for free. ) So long video store, so long.
So I guess we will again be thinking about signing up for netflix. Perhaps more seriously this time, but for the record, when "flix" is spelled that way- it sounds dirty and makes me think of porn. I can't get past it.

They took your video store! No fair! It's like Netflix is the Wal-Mart of the video rental world.
I share your dismay over the -flix ending. Hasn't the poor letter "x" been abused enough with X-treme? Stupid world of advertising and marketing. Grr.
mmmmm.....porn.....
