I keep thinking of things that I should blog about and then I lose my gumption. Ha! Story of my life...
Ms. Huis you are right! I did have a birthday on Saturday, but it's a weird number so I didn't get too excited about it. Probably because I had to work anyway, but I did get to take a nap and the Dude got me a very nice spa-related gift. (Nothing says "Happy Birthday lovely wife" like a massage gift certificate!)
We also went over to celebrate with my youngest cousin since we
share a birthday - He turned 7 this year, and the dinosaur & shark books were a big hit (thanks Kashka!) I also got him one of these Phlat ball things, which I guess is also big among first graders this year. Who knew?
Attila also got to see her 2nd cousin - who I think we are going to have to start calling "Bruiser". He is a month older than Attila, which isn't much of a difference any more, and they are pretty close to the same size, but he has developed a pushing habit. The first time he pushed Attila she gave him the "Seriously! WTF?" look. (and I totally laughed - once again I am knocked out of the running for MOTY). After that she got smart and started backing up against things whenever he headed her way. Dude has also been perfecting his Daddy "Don't-even-think-about-it" look, and that worked to keep Bruiser away too. I thought I was going to have to pull my mom off of him though- she is sooooo overprotective of Attila- I mean, like she never ever was with me and my sister. My mom used to let us do all kinds of things when we were growing up and now as a grandma she's almost the opposite. Mostly, she's turned into a germaphobe. She is always telling me not to let the baby touch things because of the germs- things like the faucet, or the doorknob. It's bizarre. I don't know who she thinks she is kidding. She is not now, nor has she ever been a clean freak. (see my lack of housekeeping abilities as exhibit A) But it seems like she wants everything the baby touches to be disinfected -which is not my style at all. Luckily, she is not overly insistent on it or she would drive me crazy.

Well, happy belated birthday then! And spa-related gifts are WONDERFUL - good job, Dude.
Good luck with the "Bruiser" and your now-germaphobe mom!
Dang -- I even knew about the Phlat ball -- got one for G3 last fall (he's 7 too). It's the ultimate frisbee for people who can't catch the darned things.
My grandmother was a germaphobe too. My parents let me eat dirt. I don't know if its the media attention to baby safety, marketing, or what, but I still say that based on current information, its a wonder that we lived long enough to have our own kids.
Happy belated birthday! And yay for the massage gift certificate.
