Do you remember Land of the Lost? I have very, very, vague memories of it (because I was so young at the time ;) Misty water-colored memories of dinosaurs and sleestaks and lots of running away from both.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brad Silberling is set to direct Will Ferrell in "Land of the Lost," a big-screen adaptation of the cult children's TV series.
The Universal Pictures project, which is set to go before cameras in March, follows a disgraced paleontologist, his enthusiastic assistant and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey-people and evil reptilian "Sleestaks" following a disastrous "routine expedition."
The TV series, from producers Sid and Marty Krofft ("H.R. Pufnstuf," "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters"), aired on NBC from 1974 to 1976. Marty Krofft, who will serve as a producer with his older brother, praised the writers of the feature script, Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas.
"What they did is keep the integrity of the show, but they made it very funny for Will. The adventure is all there. There are going to be 50 Sleestaks!"
******
50 Sleestaks?! Will Ferrell?! I suppose it makes sense that the only way to really do this is to make it a farce. I am a little sad though that there is no mention of Holly, she was my favorite and I remember trying to convince everyone at my lunch table in 2nd grade that my middle name was Holly. They all fell for it. I had one friend who didn't find out my real middle name until we were in 6th grade and doing some standardized testing. All that time she thought I was named after Land of the Lost.
Seriously though, how many drugs do you think those Krofft brothers were taking? It had to have been huge quanties of really good stuff. Do you think they are still taking them? I think I still have flashbacks from that Sigmund & the Sea Monsters show. It didn't help that it was on in the morning before I went to school, so I wasn't quite awake yet while eating my lucky charms. Talk about subliminal messaging.

Ahh, Land of the Lost... possibly a little known fact is that noted sci-fi authors Larry Niven (Ringworld, 2 episodes) and David Gerrold (War Against the Chtorr, 4 episodes) wrote for this show!
I so remember Land of the Lost! I loved that show. Where is Holly? They can't do a remake (even a farcical remake) without her. They will likely make her into a sexy, blond for Will Ferrel to fall all over.
I loved Land of the Lost! Chocka!
I'm all about the nostalgia, but I think Land of the Lost should stay lost. Wasn't it just a few years back that we were mocking the Boomers for not being able to let go of their growing-up years? I mean, dude, I'm still totally going to go see the live-action Voltron movie when it comes out, but ... that doesn't mean I think it's a good idea to make it.
will you love me any less if i admit that i never watched land of the lost? ever? not even once?
i did however watch saturday morning cartoons which included the bugs bunny road -runner show and the jetson to name just two.
