Stuck

I've somehow misplaced my mojo and I can't find it.
I am completely stuck on NaNoWriMo- I hate what I have written, I have no idea what to write next. I've tried writing out of order, I've tried just changing characters and starting them on a new storyline. I haven't yet blown anything up, but I think that something might start on fire soon if that will get things going. I just don't know. It's very intimidating- and apparently I am not as abstract random and as I like to think I am. I don't think I will be able to make it to 50k, but at this point, my goal is to just keep writing through the end of the month.

Anyway, that's my deal.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Good luck getting things fired up again.

(So, do novels jump the shark like TV shows? Could you throw two characters together and have them get married? Discover that it's all a dream? Um, have 'em go waterskiing and try to jump a shark?)

(Not that I've done this novel writing business at all, but combining your problem with your theatre background, could you develop your characters' back stories more? How they got to know each other? Scene from someone's childhood? Might be filler, might just get you toward your word count/ write every day goal, might get you thinking along a different path. 'Cuz, you know, Dumbledore is gay and all.)

*shrug* I really don't know, just throwing out ideas here.

I average being completely sick of my novel about once a day. And then I fall into a whole in the story and boom, it's interesting again, for the rest of the day. It ain't all gold, that's for sure.

Continuing to write through the end of the month is a completely valid goal, and I will be no less proud of you for acheiving that one than I would if you hit 50k.

I've been at the "Oh my god, why am I even bothering to stick more words on this pile of poo?" stage before. Often. I have no advice or suggestions except to just keep going. If you come up with something better than that, please let me know.

Let me know if you want me to come over some evening with Puck's laptop, a bottle of wine and some cannoli — sometimes making your word count an event and having someone else there you can yell, "Oh my god, why are my characters so STUPID?!" at kinda helps. Or we could hit a coffee shop or my place if you want a change of scenery.

Hang in there! You can totally do this.
