Which do you like better?

So these are the current handles/pulls on our cabinets. The color is off on the wood because of the flash, but yes, they are a dark bronze color popular in the 60's/70's. I hate them. And one day I just decided that they have to go. Because we can not possibly have a baby and still have these handles on the cabinets.

So I went to the hardware store and came home with two options. I thought the brushed silver one one the right would make the kitchen suddenly appear more clean/sleek/modern - and I do like the simplicity of them. But I think I like the ones on the left better. But since they have that black iron look going, they don't make the kitchen seem any "lighter" and it's already kind of dark in there.
Here is a closer look. They happen to cost the same. But I would have to add in the cost of hinges too. Or paint them, because they are that bronze color too. On the current handles, that back plate is a separate piece, so I briefly thought about just taking that part off and then just spray painting the rest of it brushed silver... Or iron black... The shape wouldn't be too bad if the color was different...But then I am really back to the same choice!
My husband thinks I am crazy and that I should just cool my jets and not worry about it until we re-do the whole kitchen (which will not be anytime soon, as it is all very functional, but it's a long term "someday we'd like to" item.)
But I think that sometimes little changes can make a big difference in how a room feels- and really, if I could just decide which way to go, it's a project that really wouldn't take all that long. A day at the most. Maybe a weekend if I am painting things. Right? Opinions? I will put a poll up on the side too.

We removed our ugly knobs the day we moved in. I'm shocked you've lasted this long.

I like the more ornate ones.

These DEFINITELY fall under the small and easy change makes a big difference category! You should change them and it will make you happier every time you open a cupboard. Seriously.

Which one? I don't know - I'd have to put on a set and then stand back and wishy-washy back and forth for about, oh, half an hour or better before deciding. And then I'd justify and rejustify my choice to Mr. Kluges for the rest of the day.

Or at least that's how it would work at my house. :)

Speaking as another owner of orange oak kitchen cabinets, I have to say, not even brushed silver is going to make them look sleek and modern. (They certainly didn't for me.) I understand wanting to make a dim kitchen seem brighter, but I vote for the black iron ones anyway. They just feel more like you're working with what you have, instead of fighting it.

Just make sure you're stopping at the handles -- my mom went shopping for new drawer pulls for the kitchen out at the farm a few years ago and $13K later....

If the silver ones don't make the cabinets feel modern, go with the black ones. I like them too and they add an updated but timeless feel. Make sure they are comfortable to open, though. It's hard to tell in the picture, but they look like they might be tough on the fingers in the long haul.

Do you not like the brass ones because of the color or because of the shape, or both? I have seen a lot of kitchens recently remodeled that used brass, but just with an updated style.

I would avoid the siver ones. They don't really "go" with oak in my opinion and may look out of place if you don't already have steel appliances.
Personally, I would also avoid this particular style of iron ones as well because over the years of use, crud builds up in all of those open nooks and crannies and they look gross. But, that's just me.
