Miscellaneous

This post is now a mess, because I was trying to post yesterday and I couldn't get blogger to post for me the entire day. And now my thoughts are all jumbled. My complete lack of clarity and purpose is ALL blogger's fault. Just keep that in mind.

Earlier this evening I went to the liquor store (since my seestor was coming over for take-out and some catching up) to buy a bottle of wine. There is a new poster on one of the windows that reads:

"Senior Citizen Tuesdays
10% off all regular priced bottles of wine"

When I went to check out, the nice Hmong lady gave me 10% off my bottle. I am not sure if she was just doing it to be nice, or if she thought I was a senior citizen. Granted, I wasn't wearing any makeup, but let's just assume it was out of the kindness of her heart.

My seestor is very very funny. I don't know what it is about her but she is hilarious to me. I keep trying to type an example, but they just aren't as funny as she is in person. Also, she will occasionally say something that sounds EXACTLY like what my dad would say. In the same tone. And she doesn't even realize she is doing it. Until I point at her and yell "OMG you sounded exactly like Dad when you said that!"

I think our dryer is broken. (It must be in cahoots with Ms. Huis' washing machine) Yesterday, when I went to get the clothes out of the dryer, I smelled gas in the basement and I immediately panicked. So I turned the dryer off, ran upstairs, took the phone out to the deck and called my mom. (Who else do you call when you are panicked?) My mom says a lot of weird, unusual things sometimes, but she is usually pretty good handling a problem. She laughed and asked why I was calling her and not the gas company, so I did and the nice lady there calmly asked me some quick questions, told me to get out of the house and to wait for the service guy who she would send out right away. Attila and I set up camp in the front yard, and we live in the kind of neighborhood that if you are out in your front yard for more than 5 min. the neighbors will come over and chat. In some ways I like that, in some ways I hate it and find it annoying. The neighbor ladies (Julie and Donna) were kind enough to point out that sitting on my front step wasn't really going to save me if the house did explode. Thanks ladies, that's very helpful! The gas guy finally got here and checked it all out and of course, couldn't find any leak at all. Very anti-climatic! I even ran the dryer for him a little bit- still nothing. But we did discover that the dryer is not putting out any heat- which could be why the clothes weren't yet dry. And maybe why I thought I smelled gas? So now I have to get someone out to look at the dryer.
I was going to do it today, but it was too nice out today- in the 70's and it's probably the last really warm day we will have for a while, and I didn't want to waste it waiting around for the dryer man, so Attlia and I went to the park instead. We even took the dog- who is not quite used to walking with the stroller yet. You wouldn't think it would be hard, but apparently staying out from under the wheels is a difficult skill to learn. Who knew?

Well, maybe that wine was just on sale for 10% off. A special on that brand, you know. Sure... 'cuz we're WAYYY closer to being underage than senior citizens!

Sorry to hear about your dryer problems, especially since babies make so much laundry. At least if it's nice you can hang them up outside. Speaking of "in the 70s," we're having a craptacular day here today - gusty, sheety rain with wind gusts predicted to be approaching 60 mph! So, at least you didn't have to sit outside in something like that!

Good luck to the Deeogee in learning how to walk with the stroller. Here's hoping he doesn't get his paws pinched underneath too many times.

We too had dryer problems this week. We were quite perterbed about it because it died in June and we put a fair amount of money into it. The dryer guy came to the house yesterday and found....a head rodent which had gotten into the vent and was caught in the dryer. By using the dryer I killed the poor critter. I feel a bit bad about the whole thing...apparently the dryer is working again.

Are you seriously tired of The Leader? Do we need an intervention or has she honestly jumped the shark? I kind of enjoyed the last episode of her show I saw, but I'm a sucker for the "here's how I figured out the guy I rode the bus with was a wanted sex fugitive" shows.

Ooops!! Guess I should be more careful about what I'm hanging outside... or my sentence structure, anyway! Hee, hee!
