I've been bad about the posting everyday thing lately. I just haven't had much to post about and with the holiday weekend we've been busy visiting family and friends. Thursday was Thanksgiving of course, and then Friday we had Thanksgiving 2- electric boogaloo, with some old friends that we don't see very often, then on Saturday we went to my cousin's first birthday party, and then it was also Dude's Dad's birthday so we had to go see them too. Today has been the only day we've had to ourselves. Not that I am complaining, I am just exampling why I have been too busy to blog lately. Besides that whole mental block thing I've got going.
The first birthday party was pretty crazy- there maybe 40 people there, including 4 babies and a 3 year old and a 4 year old. It was loud! I think that Dude was a little overwhelmed, but Attila did really well and took most of it in stride. Of course, her two favorite Aunties were there so she was well entertained.
Here's a long story for you:
I had bought THE perfect present for my MIL for Christmas. You are going to laugh, but for years she has talked about the Garth Brooks concert from Ireland- she watched it on TV (PBS?) somehow and has wanted a DVD of the concert ever since. (I think it originally aired in 1999?) Not because she is a huge Garth Brooks fan, though she does like him, but because the audience was Irish- and looked like her. (she is also pale and has red hair) Weird- but whatever. I had looked and the only version of the concert ever released was released in the UK in a limited edition thing and was no longer available. This year, Garth Brooks released a 5 DVD set- guess what was on DVD #3? The concert from Dublin! So I had to buy it. From the evil walmart. But I preordered it and got it the day it was released. I was so excited to finally get her something that I knew she really wanted. She's kind of hard to buy for! And I told my husband, "Please oh PLEASE, don't let your mom find out about this DVD before Christmas or she is just going to buy it!"
Guess who bought herself the Garth Brooks DVD?
Yeah. I could have strangled her! But at least she told us and I didn't end up giving it to her on Christmas when she already had it. Grr! Those inlaws of mine- including my husband- they are not very good about the "If it's 2 months or less before Christmas, don't buy it for yourself, add it to your wishlist" rule. So now I've got to find something else. Bah.

It took years of conditioning to get my parents to start supplying adequate Christmas lists. This is the reason why when I have to say the phrase "black leather driving gloves" it's alway proceeded by "the same damn". But now, they're very well behaved about it, so give it a try with the MIL. You'll all be happier in the long run.
Perhaps Dude should push the issue with them?
Mine requested electric toothbruhes this year. And Amazon.com carries them & my SIL will wrap them, so now all I have to do is actually get on the ball and order them.
That is a BUMMER with the MIL - especially since you'd FINALLY found something you knew she'd like and would have been so pleased and surprised about! Better luck next time!
The thing is - we do lists. Very helpful lists. And while we hadn't yet received this year's list, this DVD has been on her list for 3 or 4 years, because she knew it wasn't available. Not to mention, she called about a week before I found out about the DVD and let us know that the show was re-playing, in case we wanted to catch it so we knew what she was talking about. AND she is the kind of person that *thinks* she is easy to buy for, but isn't at all really.
Sorry- just venting.
She did give me some other ideas at least.
