Because I am the CEO

I just realized I never explained the title of that last post, because half way through I changed my mind about what I was posting about and I never went back to change it. So now it makes no sense at all. I certainly can't explain it now- that would ruin the mystery.

Tonight I went to go see my accountant. (hahahaha!) That just sounds so bizarre and funny to me- it's just such a grown up thing. And me of all people! I come from a pretty blue collar middle class family, I don't think any one of them has ever had a need for an accountant. So to me, it sounds pretty fancy pants.
I actually really liked her a lot- she was great. I had a little trouble finding someone affordable, but finally, one of my friend-of a friend-of an accountant of a friend- leads panned out. Since I've never done this before, I wanted to make sure I was prepared. I printed every report that looked even remotely useful from the bookkeeping software, and I gathered up all my receipts and statements and everything else I could think of, including the laptop (you know, just in case). All in all, I only needed about 1/4 of what I brought along- but that's ok. I'd rather have too much info than not enough. And THEN as I was putting everything away in my expanding file, she said, "Wow -you are so organized, everything is laid out as it should be, I wish more of my clients were like that"
HA! I laughed out loud because, Me? Organized? Really? You haven't been to my house. But then on the way home I started to think about it and really, I shouldn't be all that surprised. I am organized. It is right there on my resume: "excellent organizational skills", and it's always been a strong point in my work reviews. And no matter how I am in my personal life, (which is maybe just a little cluttered- but I always know where everything is) in my work life, I've always been pretty systematic. I just kinda forgot. Or more truthfully, just disregarded it. I shouldn't do that. Anyway, it was a nice compliment to hear, especially since I was so nervous about the whole thing. She really made me feel more confident about it all.

The first time is always the one where you feel least confident (whatever that first time thing might be) -- but you are definately sounding more like the business woman I know you are :-) This will be old hat sooner than you believe and you'll be giving sage advice (as always) on this "owning your own business" thing.

Of course you're organized! I think we are all a little bit more [insert good quality here] at work. It's not fraught with emotion or expectations, so we don't carry as much baggage into work. Hopefully.
