I love the Sound of Music. I love Christopher Plummer and his steely gaze, I love the effeminate Max, I love Maria and her moxie, I love how bitchy the Baroness is, I love it all. I've always liked it, but it seems like every time I see it, I just love it more. So much of it went over my head as a kid, that it's just cool to see all kinds of double meaning and other subtleties that I never picked up on before.
And towards the end when the Captain is onstage at the festival singing "Edelweiss" and his voice cracks and he just can't sing anymore? Gets.me.every.time.
(I know, I fully embrace my geekiness.)

Oh yeah. I don't particularly like The Sound of Music and I'm a total grumpy scrooge about musicals in general, but the "Edelweiss" part kills me, too. Every time.
My favorite movie of all time! I used to watch it over and over and over and over (you get the point) when I was a child and teenager. I was going through my movie cabinet the other day and I came across it and told my husband that was the movie I wanted to watch. He nixed the idea but now that you have reminded me of it I am going to watch it with Avery today. Why aren't movies as good today as they were back then?
Apathy and the gradual declination of the US morality....yup, I think that's it.
Warning: Kashka's Secret Shame follows:
I always tear up when Maria and the Captain sing to each other in the gazebo.
You may feel free to look away.
Oh me too kashka- I love when he turns to her, looks in her eyes and says, "There isn't going to be any Baroness"- and it takes her a moment, and then it dawns on her, and you can see it all on her face. *sigh* I love that scene too.
I got to relive it all last year when my lame little choir sang "The Sound of Music". I bought the original broadway version CD. I still think Julie Andrews was far superior.
My mom was in the play when she was in high school and still had her script so there was one summer when I was about 8 that we sang and acted out the sound of music for hours and hours.
Have never seen it. Have no desire to see it. *ducks rotten egg being thrown in her direction*
