This weekend was the last weekend for my classes and so I had 2 big end of term shows to get through, one on Sat and another on Sun. Thankfully, the one today, I was only the drama teacher, not the principal, so I didn't have to work as hard.
Both shows went better than the dress rehearsals which is good, and really, that's about all you can ask for when you are working with kids. Not the greatest shows we've ever done, but not the worst either -so I am pretty happy.
And I get my weekends back again, which contributes greatly to the happiness.
Some of my favorite highlights for your amusement;
Peter Pan scene. Characters are Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John.
Wendy: Oh Peter! I knew you'd come back!The show was a Broadway revue, with lots of little scenes and songs, and the narrators filling in lines about Broadway history. Poor little narrator #17...
Michael: Hi Peter! I'm John.
John: And I'm John.
Peter Pan: Are they coming with us?
Wendy: Oh I couldn't go to Neverland without John and......John.
"... the songwriting team of Rogers and Hams, Hamstein, Rogers and Hampsterstein!"
And then today, one of the shows was an adaptation of the Tortoise and the Hare. The little girl who played the Tortoise had the last line in the show which is "It just goes to show you, slow and steady wins the race!" A few weeks ago I really started to work with her on her delivery of this line because she was mumbling it and it was getting lost. So I explained to her how important it was, and how she had to say it nice and loud and smile as she said it. I made her run it a kajillion times. She got to the point where she would do a super fake smile- but say the line nice and loud. Great, I'll take it. Then came the show.
We get to her first line, which is supposed to be, "I will, I will race you!"
And what does she say?
"It just goes to show you, slow and steady wins the race!"I literally did the hand to the forehead thing. I mean, I've had students drop lines before, but not the whole entire show! Luckily we got her back on track quickly, but OMG it was funny.

I need to remember not to read your posts when I'm rocking the Sprout back to sleep, I have too hard of a time not laughing. Tonight I think I'll have some Rogers and Hams beer to relax.
