We need a holiday

We didn't do too much this weekend because I had performance company shows this week (that's the older kids who audition to be in the company). They did some Christopher Durang material. I think Durang is hilarious anyway, but it's particularly amusing to see 10-18 yr. olds tackle his scripts. They did a fine job. As we all know, comedy is hard.
We start planning for the Summer show this week (eek! so unprepared!) and then I have dress rehearsal this weekend with the show next weekend- and it always seems like just when things should be winding down, it's always winding up instead. Blah blah busycakes.

We did get out to see Indiana Jones IV though (of course we did, have you met my husband? The one who has the entire script* for Raiders of the Lost Arc memorized? *not an exaggeration ) I went in a bit guarded, but ended up really enjoying it. Harrison Ford looks a little worse for the wear, but can still carry off a hero role. (though there is a lot less sexual tension in this one than previous ones) I didn't like the looks of the whole first bit- the CGI was just too pretty or they overused the "backlighting" tool or something and it didn't look gritty and real. It was too cleaned up- but eventually it got better, or I got sucked in and stopped noticing. I am not sure which. One of my favorite parts was the trailer for Hell Boy 2- the first few minutes are really well done and you aren't sure what movie it's for. At about 2 min. in, they finally show Hell Boy on screen and I could hear the entire theater of geeks exhale and say, "Oh! Hell Boy! Cooool!" THAT was really funny.

Then today we went to the Zoo. We only stayed for a couple of hours, but it was a nice outing. Didn't see enough of the gorillas/ orangutans though- apparently they have the day off. Attila loved the giraffe, and especially the penguins. (She has a penguin walk now that she likes to do.) The zebra was making some weird braying noise. I honestly had no idea that Zebras could even make noise!
And of course we had to ride the carousel. It's hard to get a good action shot- but here they are after riding. (Kashka, it weighs 30 tons, all supported by the center pole [oiled daily]. The original 1914 engine was a 20 hp, replaced in the late 1960s with a 7.5 hp. )
Attila says so many funny things now that I can't even keep up with them. She is always cracking us up. And the questions. OMG the questions. (Where's that truck going? What are those people doing? What is that building? Is that a goat? That my playground? Where we going?) They never stop.
Recently she's also starting to start conversations instead of just responding to what other people say. My favorite so far: "I have a monkey costume."

Sounds like a good weekend. And, I must be tired, because I giggled at "center pole (oiled daily)"

Sounds like a fun weekend. I'm planning on taking the kids to como too. I just had to laugh about the constant barrage of questions. She sounds like my kids, they just never stop! Now I think they just ask me questions out of habit since they ask me questions they already know the answer to.
