Just in case you thought I was exaggerating...

It's not just me, and apparently, it's not just in the US...

From News of the Weird:

The reputation of the Japanese for being humble is falling to Western norms among primary-school parents, according to a June dispatch from Tokyo in The Times of London. "Across Japan, teachers are reporting an astonishing change in the character of parents" as they push for their children's "rights." In one school's performance of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," there were 25 Snow Whites after "monster parents" bullied officials into admitting that it was not fair to have just one kid in the title role. YES! I could not find that article when you wrote about your "but she should be Dorothy, or at least Toto" parent, but I think I was searching for it with China, not Japan. Either way, crazy.

Please don't let me be that parent, please don't let me be that parent, please don't let me be that parent...

I agree with syl,,, I so don't want to be that parent. I get scared of being offended when my daughter has to face rejection and ends up being the carrot in the school play rather than the lead tomato! But dammit... I'll make sure she's the best carrot she can be!

Yikes. Imagine, Evita with 25 Evitas, or WSS with a dozen Marias. Yahoos like that give parents a bad name!

I remember getting a part in a play that was a walk-on 2 minute thing in elementary school. I was so good, other parents came up to me afterward to congratulate me!!
