You might as well gouge my eyes out now...

From IMDB:

A new production of King Lear is beginning to look like an incredibly promising Shakespeare film. As we reported last month, Anthony Hopkins is set to tackle one of the Bard's most tortured characters, with Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow singing on to play his daughters. The only thing is, Lear has three daughters.

Enter Naomi Watts, whom The Guardian confirms will play the eldest of the three girls.

Don't expect a big, glitzy Shakespeare, though, just because the actors are all Academy Award nominees and movie stars in their own right. Director Joshua Michael Stern told the paper, "The one thing that I'm staying away from is stunt casting. So there won't be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles..."
How about some really great actors playing the larger roles hmm? That would be nice to see! I have no problem with Anthony Hopkins. And I don't feel strongly one way or the other about Naomi Watts. Keira Knightly doesn't seem quite right, but maybe she could pull it off. But Gwyneth? Paltrow? She is not a Shakespearean actress people. Please stop offering her these roles! Just because she can read the lines doesn't mean she can act. Also? Shakespeare in Love = NOT actual Shakespeare. I guess Cate Blanchette, Kate Winslett, Kate Beckinsale, Samantha Morton and Emily Watson were all unavailable... *sigh*

I couldn't stand Cate Blanchette in LotR. She wasn't right. Fine as a evil foil to Indy in Crystal Skull, but wondrous elf queen? NO.

So yeah, I hear you on Gwyneth being wrong for this.

Paltrow was great in Iron Man, though, you have to admit.

Ms. Huis: Shut your mouth. Blasphemey! :)

Oh, Raging Dad, don't get me wrong - I LOVE LotR... just not her in it. :)

Come on now, AKJ...we all know you have a longstanding bias against Gwyneth....

And rightly so, of course! She's awful. And creepy...in a soulless, empty kind of way. *shivers*

BTW...totally off-topic, but I could so go toe-to-toe with you when it comes to Target gluttony. Ever since they opened one up 4 minutes from my house last October (of the "Super" variety, no less), it's been like a second home.
