I like gardens, I like being outside, but I've never really been a gardening kind of person. I grew up in the city with a small yard and my mom only ever grew some day lilies (you know, over by the garage like it states in MN law) some raspberries, some rhubarb and some strawberries. Occasionally she would have one tomato plant, but not even every year. Oh and there were some morning glories that came up by the fence, but I think those came with the house, same with the HUGE Hydrangea in the front. All of those things require very very little maintenance, and so I never really learned about gardening.
So as an experiment (partially to see if I like it, and partially to see if anything will grow) we started a square foot garden this year. The smallness of it really appealed to me- it seems manageable and doable and it's supposed to be pretty easy and not
hugely time consuming. And if it works, and I like it, Great! We can add on next year. And if not? Oh well, no big loss. We grew some flowers and herbs in containers last year (and will do that again) and Attila really liked the planting and the watering part of it all. It's fun to have her interested in it as well. I also got one of those strawberry pots for this year too. Not sure that thing will work either, but what the hey.
So far, we've put in some peas and onions. My SIL and the seed packages both said that we could plant those as early as April and they should be ok. Stir-fry, here we come! Can you believe that my closest Farmer's Market doesn't start up until JULY this year? JULY?! You can see why I had to take matters into my own hands. That reminds me, off to google next closest market.

I say don't screw around...just go to the St. Paul Farmer's Market. SO worth the drive, no matter where you are. :)
jealous! I could garden here in Tucson but between the heat, lack of water, dirt that is like cement and the bunnies I haven't attempted it yet. My compost is coming along so I suppose if that is really booming I will have to give it a try! Of course, there's the problem of my lack of a green thumb which may get in the way of anything actually living.
OK, where did you get the cute planter box? Because the thought of building three more for this year's garden scares the bejesus out of me.

Lol! (Why yes, I do have daylilies growing over by my garage.)
Check you out, with your end-caps on the garden bed. Schmancy! I hope you enjoy your gardening endeavor. (Also, that's a damn cute picture of Genghis.)
I got the cute bed at home despot of course. They were on sale. Dude thinks I need another because next year if I want to expand I will want them to match. He might just have a point!
